Each year North West Biotech Initiative bring 'Build a Biotech' to Manchester in collaboration with the Masood Entrepreneurship Centre and the University of Manchester.
A fictional start-up business idea competition with the aim to encourage entrepreneurship within the academic community in the Biotech sector.
Why we run it?
This competition encourages participants to think about topical issues and how they can be solved via biotechnology. Through the process, participants all get to learn important business and team working skills. Teams are also encouraged to think about the sustainability implications of their solutions in our ever-changing climate.
What does it entail?
Teams of 2-4 participants are invited to solve the yearly assigned brief via fictional biotechnology ideas. This includes from initial idea, all the way to financing and branding. Researching into current technology, and defending your choice could lead to you being selected for competition day with a chance to win cash prizes.
What do I gain?
In the lead up to the competition, selected teams will be invited to attend multidisciplinary workshops, run by Technology pros, covering business planning, marketing & finance, intellectual property and much more. In addition, each team is provided with an expert mentor to provide guidance and feedback.
Finally, teams will pitch in front industry experts with the chance to win £600 cash!
