March 2024 Round Up
With another month gone comes another update from the NWBI - let’s talk about what happened in March!
Our primary focus this month was the “Build a Biotech Competition”, which is now officially underway. This is a start-up competition that aims to make biotech innovation coming from academia in the Northwest a sounding reality. Participants will learn how to turn a great idea into a real business opportunity and have the chance to pitch to investors and industry experts in person.
The winning teams will receive up to £15,000 cash prize, with the possibility to access laboratory facilities and a specialised accelerator program to further develop their start-up. Since registration has closed, we thank all participants who have signed up to take part in this competition. Furthermore, a special thank you to our main collaborators; Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Catalyst (IBIC) and Masood Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) for making this possible.

In other news, we've completed the screening process for the Medical Communications Competition applicants. We now have a shortlist of the top 8 applicants who will all attend the medical communications masterclass at VML. We will then decide the top 3 from that list based on their presentation skills to see who will get the prize money. Good luck to all the contestants!
We're also thrilled to announce that the NWBI has been nominated for the Educate North Award in two distinguished categories: Student Experience and STEM Initiative. This recognition shows how dedicated we are to offering outstanding educational experiences and promoting STEM initiatives, something we hope to continue for many years to come.
Remember to keep your notifications on for more information on upcoming events from the NWBI!
