Bioscience Meets Commercialisation Event – 24th July, MIB Lecture Theatre
Are you interested in bioscience commercialisation? Would you like to learn how spin-out companies are developed from that initial ‘light bulb’ moment? The Northwest Biotech Initiative, together with UMIP, will be hosting a lunchtime seminar to inspire and educate young researchers who are interested in entrepreneurship.
We are delighted to present our panel of speakers, who will be sharing with us the knowledge and experience they gained whilst establishing their own spin-out companies:
Prof. Richard Walmsley is the Scientific Director and CSO of Gentronix and Professor of Genetics at the University of Manchester. Richard’s early research using yeast as a model organism led to the development of a yeast genetic fingerprint test, and sparked his interest in biotechnology. Gentronix is an established biotechnology innovation and service company specialising in genotoxicity assays for a range of industries.
Daniel Jamieson is the CEO and founder of Biorelate. Daniel completed his industry-funded PhD at the University of Manchester in 2014 and was the winner of the prestigious Venture Further £10,000 prize from the Manchester Enterprise Centre for the best technology start-up company. Biorelate strive to support the transition of life sciences research into a new era of big data analysis by building databases of biomedical knowledge from published literature.
George Grant is the Co-founder of Shindigger Brewing Co. George obtained his BSc from the University of Manchester Business School, where he specialised in International Business and Finance & Economics. He won the Enterprise Futures pitching competition and co-founded Shindigger Brewing Co. in 2013. Their first beer, Pacific Pale Ale, is now stocked in over 20 pubs in the Northwest.
This lunchtime seminar will run 12:00 – 13:00 on Friday 24th July in the MIB lecture theatre, followed by a FREE networking lunch. Whether you are an aspiring entrepreneur or just keen to learn more about commercialisation, this will be an excellent opportunity to learn from the journeys of three experienced bioscience entrepreneurs.
We hope to see you there!
